The images in this portfolio are taken from my book, Sotto Voce (ISBN 978-0-9565386-0-4). The images differ widely in location, from Dachau to the prairie of the USA, from Dungeness to the Arctic. These are photographs of spaces where people were and have just left; where they might arrive at any moment; where they might be listening or waiting to be asked to tell. Those mysterious, gesturing, beating hearts of places.
